Dr. JoAnne L Whelan, PhD MS RDN

I am a clinical assistant professor at Indiana University Indianapolis and serve as the Master of Science and Dietetic Internship Director. My clinical background is in both adult and pediatric nutrition. My current role is in outpatient developmental pediatrics and research at IU Health Riley Hospital for Children . In practice, I create nutrition care plans for children that are failure to thrive or often at risk for growth restriction. In addition, I provide oral and enteral nutrition recommendations for infants through adolescent aged children. I earned my undergraduate degree from Marian University and completed my Master's and Doctoral degrees at Indiana University. I have been a Registered Dietitian for over 20 years in both inpatient and outpatient clinical settings. I have encountered patients of all ages and nutrition conditions. I am very passionate about learning and value nutrition education. I am married with five children and greatly enjoy learning first hand how nutrition impacts humans through various stages of development.
