The Role of Health Promotion and Chronic Disease Prevention

Food intake patterns, lifestyle behavior and body weight status are associatated with the development of chronic diseases. Optimal nutrition throughout all phases of life, especially for the population groups that are at risk for health disparities, must be the primary focus of health promotion and disease prevention efforts of RDs/DTRs. This practice paper supports the Academy position paper on the same topic published in the July 2013 Journal of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
