Restaurant Menu Labeling - The Impact on the Environment of Nutrition and Dietetics - Module 1: Legislative Background, the Law and Emerging Trends

Brought to you by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Center for Professional Development with a special thank you to the content writers and presenters, Amanda M. Rieter and Joy Dubost, PhD, RD, at the National Restaurant Association.

In this module we will be reviewing the most current information regarding the new Federal Menu Labeling Law. The FDA is still in the process of defining certain terms of the law, providing final guidance on implementation, and timing of enforcement of the law. As you can see this is an evolutionary process. FDA will continue to provide updates on the new law via their website www.fda.gov. Overall, this module will cover the legislative background which led to the enactment of the national nutrition disclosure law in retail eating establishments and restaurants. In addition, the module will cover the details of the law including what has been released thus far by FDA regarding timing and implementation. Finally, The module will also cover emerging trends that could impact the restaurant industry on a national level. Currently many of the trends that will be discussed are at the state and/or local level.
