Georgia Affiliate Hosts Successful State Legislative Day

More than 50 members of the Georgia Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics participated February 19 in the affiliate's State Legislative Day at the capitol in Atlanta. GAND members reached more than 100 legislators with their messages to support food and nutrition programs and funding for important programs including child nutrition, school meal program and meals on wheels/senior nutrition.

State Policy Representative Sharon Rhodes, MS, RDN, LD, said: "We were proud to provide school meals at a luncheon for legislators with delicious offerings to showcase RDNs involvement in feeding hungry children across our state. GAND advocacy efforts were mentioned by legislators the next day in a hearing for a bill that we lobbied to include licensed dietitians in the list of health care practitioners."
