April 1 Deadline: Foundation Research Grant

The Foundation's named research funds are available annually to Academy members at all levels of practice. These grants focus on areas such as renal disease, childhood obesity, nutrition and oral health, diabetes medical nutrition therapy, diet and neurological disorders and nutritional epidemiology. The application deadline for research grants is April 1.

The 2013 Healthy Aging DPG Community Based Applied Research/Best Practice Award was awarded to Kelsey Mangano, PhD, RD:

The support I have received is fundamental to my career as an early-stage investigator working in the area of nutrition and epidemiology. The funds from the Foundation will help me in my investigations of improving the functional capacity of an aging population and will allow me to disseminate the importance of nutrition research across numerous scientific disciplines.

Mangano's project will evaluate relations between dietary protein food sources and musculoskeletal health in an aging population. Her goal is to have a research career that will enhance understanding of relations between nutrition, bone and muscle metabolism.
