March 3 Deadline: Nominations for Outstanding Preceptor Award

The Academy Foundation, the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics and the Nutrition and Dietetic Educators and Preceptors dietetic practice group are again jointly sponsoring awards to preceptors who are exemplary educators and mentors.

The Outstanding Preceptor Award program recognizes the teaching, mentoring and leadership activities of preceptors in ACEND-accredited dietetics education programs. Seven awardees (one from each NDEP region) will receive support of $1,000 from the Foundation to attend the 2014 Food & Nutrition Conference & Expo in Atlanta, Ga.

Nominate an outstanding preceptor from your program by March 3.

To complete this application you will need to provide contact information for both the nominator and the nominee, along with two letters of support (one from the nominator or another faculty member and the second from a student/intern). Each letter will need to address the following areas, which must be pasted in the three comment boxes in the online application (1,800 character limit per comment box):

  • Information about the preceptor and why you chose to nominate this preceptor over others.
  • Ways in which the preceptor assists students with other activities (such as research projects, posters, National Nutrition Month).
  • Factors making this preceptor effective working with students/interns and any other information that you believe is relevant to this preceptor’s nomination.

Please note that only letters of support received through the online application will be accepted. Nominations sent by email or postal mail will be rejected.

Outstanding Preceptor Award winners will be announced in April: National Preceptor Month.
