Oregon Affiliates Discuss Health Care with Congressman

Academy members from Oregon recently attended U.S. Rep. Earl Blumenauer's (Ore.) breakfast event to discuss "Health Care 2.0." He invited health care professionals to the fundraising event and, thanks to ANDPAC, the Academy was able to have a seat at the breakfast table. Among the MDs, PhDs and hospital executives were registered dietitian nutritionists from the Oregon Academy's public policy team.

Academy members were successful in communicating their simple message to the Congressman: RDNs are a vital force in the success of a health care system which increasingly emphasizes prevention and overall wellness. This is a strong testament to the power of ANDPAC.

Christopher Errante, MS, RD, said: "Congressman Blumenauer clearly does his homework when it comes to learning about all the aspects of Health Care 2.0. As dietitians, we can only help him learn more about our unique importance and job description."

Sareena Smith-Bucholz, RDN, LD, said: "There is great opportunity for us as dietitian nutritionists within health-care transformation. Congressman Blumenauer made it evident that we are working towards outcomes-based incentives. It has been shown RDNs can provide good outcomes for less of a cost than many other providers. We need to keep our voices heard; even the Congressman said this himself."

Oregon Academy members attending the breakfast included Leah Brandis, RD, LD, CSG; Christopher Errante, MS, RD; Cary Fardal, RD; Angela Kockler, MBA, RD; Kimberly LaCroix, MPH, RD; Sandy Miller, MS, RD; Anna Rosinoff, MS, RD; and Sareena Smith-Bucholz, RDN, LD.
