Diversity Promotion Grant Will Award $10,000

The Diversity Promotion Grant, administered by the Academy's Diversity Committee, awards $10,000 to an accredited dietetics program, Academy affiliate, dietetic practice group or member interest group that develops a program focused on recruitment or retention of underrepresented groups in the profession. The grant is awarded in June and the project can be conducted in a two-year timeframe. The application deadline is April 2.

The current grant, "Football, Fitness & Your Future: Collaboration & Research," is a project at Youngstown State University's Bitonte College of Health and Human Services, Department of Human Ecology. The project is under the direction of Jeanine L. Mincher, PhD, RD, LD; and Suzanne M. Leson, PhD, RDN/LD. This program developed a partnership with the Youngstown State University Athletic Department, Eastern Ohio Area Health Education Center, American Dairy Association Mideast and Department of Human Ecology. Conducted at the yearly summer camp for high school football players, their parents and coaching staff, the program provided a healthy lunch; a session on nutrition information for athletes presented by Academy member Jim White, RD, ACSM/HFS; and information on dietetics career opportunities.
