Join the 2015 Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee for Its Second Meeting

The Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee has announced that its second meeting will take place January 13 and 14, 2014, in Washington, D.C. Members of the Academy and the public are encouraged to attend in person or tune in via webcast. The Academy will be providing oral testimony during this meeting.

Register to attend in person, or view the webcast.

The meeting originally was scheduled to occur during the government shutdown in October, but was rescheduled.

The 15-member committee includes five registered dietitian nutritionists. DGAC members were appointed jointly earlier this year by U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius and Department of Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack. The 2015 committee is charged with devising recommendations and rationale to serve as a basis for the eighth edition of the Dietary Guidelines for Americans. The Dietary Guidelines serve as the foundation for national nutrition programs, standards and education, and provide key recommendations for the general population as well as specific population groups to help people choose an overall healthy diet that works for them.

Among the 15 authorities on the committee are five registered dietitian nutritionists and one honorary Academy member:

  • Barbara Millen, DrPH, RD (chair)
  • Alice H. Lichtenstein, DSc, RD (vice chair)
  • Gary Foster, PhD
  • Marian Neuhouser, PhD, RD
  • Anna Maria Siega-Riz, PhD, RD
  • Mary Story, PhD, RD

The DGAC will hold a series of meetings in 2014 to deliberate on the development of its Advisory Committee Report, during which they will receive oral testimony from experts in the field.
