Academy Members Advocate for Inclusion of Nutrition Services in California Health Care

Last week, members from the California Dietetic Association’s Public Policy Council met with state leaders to ensure the public has access to important nutrition services.

Six members of CDA's Public Policy Council met in San Francisco with Herb Schultz, regional director of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, and Rear Admiral Nadine Simon, assistant surgeon general for HHS Region IX. The meeting focused on how registered dietitian nutritionists and dietetic technicians, registered can be included as providers in the Affordable Care Act and Covered California: the state's insurance marketplace for the uninsured.

As new health care legislation is passed, CDA and other affiliates are working hard to ensure that RDNs and DTRs are recognized as the health and nutrition experts: evidence-based, results-driven professionals entitled to reimbursement.
