Food & Nutrition Magazine's Hunger Issue Distributed Nationwide during Hunger Action Month

September is Hunger Action Month. Exploring food insecurity from domestic, global, institutional, policy and personal perspectives, the September/October 2013 issue of the Academy's magazine Food & Nutrition is the Hunger Issue. During Hunger Action Month, the Academy is sharing this issue with millions nationwide.

To help spread the word about food insecurity, the Academy is distributing the Food & Nutrition Hunger Issue to more than 2,500 waiting rooms in doctor's offices and hospitals, with an estimated audience size of 50 million. The Academy also shared the issue with the national office of Food Day, to distribute at events taking place nationwide on October 24.

The September/October 2013 edition of Food & Nutrition Magazine features:

  • Top Hunger Organizations: Few initiatives inspire as much collaborative spirit as the fight against hunger. As communities engage to provide sustainable solutions and educate others about food security, Food & Nutrition Magazine celebrates Hunger Action Month with a nod to organizations who champion the cause of food for all.
  • A Tale of Two Food Deserts: Learn how mobile food banks are bringing fresh groceries directly to food-insecure families, whether they live in urban food deserts or sparsely populated farmland.
  • Closing the Culture Gap: Learn why truly understanding the perspective of a food-insecure client – especially a person from a culture different than your own – can result in a more successful outcome for you and the client alike.
  • Redefining Rabbit: This sustainable meat source could contribute to reducing hunger.
  • Beans: Pantry Staples, Nutrition Stars: Learn about the culinary uses of 11 bean varieties.
