Academy Members from Numerous Organizations Attend First Lady's Meeting on Food Marketing to Children

Academy members attended a White House meeting late last week to discuss marketing food to children. Led by First Lady Michelle Obama, the meeting included a variety of stakeholders and focused on identifying solutions for marketing to kids to encourage healthier food consumption.

The goal of the meeting was to begin a constructive, collaborative dialogue and strategize about ways to shift the marketing of unhealthy products to healthier products. Additionally, the convening aimed to identify ways to decrease the marketing of unhealthy foods to kids.

Academy members represented all areas including media, food industry research and consumer advocacy. Following Mrs. Obama's remarks, an engaging dialogue ensued.

The Academy supports efforts to minimize food marketing of unhealthy foods to children. Read the Academy's comments on the subject from July 14, 2011.
