Interdisciplinary Call to Action to Address Adult Hospital Malnutrition

The Academy is a founding member of the Alliance to Advance Patient Nutrition, an interdisciplinary consortium dedicated to clinician collaboration across hospital settings in the U.S. to identify and address adult hospital nutrition. The Alliance has collaborated on a new consensus paper, "Critical Role of Nutrition in Improving Quality of Care: An Interdisciplinary Call to Action to Address Adult Hospital Malnutrition," which is available on the Journal of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics' website.

The Alliance consists of leaders from the Academy of Medical-Surgical Nurses, American Society of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition, Society of Hospital Medicine and the Academy. Support from Academy sponsor Abbott Nutrition helps make the Alliance possible.

The Alliance recognizes that registered dietitian nutritionists are the most knowledgeable professionals on patient nutrition; a vital source of information on the positive impact of nutrition on the quality of patient care; and a key driver of nutritional collaboration among all hospital clinicians.

The consensus paper will be published in the September Journal and is now available online.
