ANDPAC Supports Efforts to Expand Reimbursement for RDNs

Thanks to the Academy's Political Action Committee, the Academy has attended more than 10 events in July for members of Congress to advocate for the Treat and Reduce Obesity Act.

Members of Congress have included Senators Mike Enzi (Wyo.), Jeanne Shaheen (N.H.) and Pat Toomey (Pa.), and Representatives Eliot Engel (N.Y.), Ron Kind (Wis.), Tim Murphy (Pa.), Frank Pallone (N.J.), John Sarbanes (Md.), John Shimkus (Ill.) and Ed Whitfield (Ky.). Academy Past President Ethan Bergman, PhD, RDN, CD, FADA, will host an ANDPAC breakfast event July 25 for Senator Tom Carper (Del.) at the Academy's Washington, D.C. office.

The Academy has initiated a comprehensive advocacy plan to move the Treat and Reduce Obesity Act out of committees and onto each congressional chamber's floor. This strategy includes attending fundraisers for member of Congress who are part of these targeted committees. During these fundraisers and other Capitol Hill appointments, the Academy has had the opportunity to meet with members of Congress to discuss the importance of the Treat and Reduce Obesity Act to improve the health of our seniors.
