Online Certificate of Training Program: Chronic Kidney Disease Nutrition Management

Registered dietitian nutritionists play a pivotal role in enhancing self management by people with chronic kidney disease and in educating other health professionals about chronic kidney disease. To prepare members in this area, the Academy's Center for Professional Development presents Chronic Kidney Disease Nutrition Management, an online certificate of training program.

The program consists of five modules that build upon one another:

  • Module 1: Chronic Kidney Disease Basics
  • Module 2: Slow Progression
  • Module 3: Complications
  • Module 4: The “Diet” for Chronic Kidney Disease
  • Module 5: The Transition from Chronic Kidney Disease to Kidney Failure.

The program includes activities, case studies and tools that can be used when counseling people with CKD. This program was developed in partnership with the National Kidney Disease Education Program, an initiative of the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases of the National Institutes of Health.

To receive the certificate associated with the training, all five modules must be completed and participants must pass a final exam in Module 5 with an 80 percent score. The final post-test is online within the fifth module.
