Funding Alert: Public Health Innovators Should Apply

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services has announced a new funding opportunity for the second round of Health Care Innovation Awards. Up to $1 billion is available for projects that test new payment and service delivery models that provide better health care and lower costs through improved quality for Medicare, Medicaid and Children's Health Insurance Program enrollees.

One of the four major categories of funding is for "Models that improve the health of populations – defined geographically (health of a community), clinically (health of those with specific diseases) or by socioeconomic class – through activities focused on engaging beneficiaries, prevention (for example, a diabetes prevention program or a hypertension prevention program), wellness and comprehensive care that extend beyond the clinical service delivery setting."

The Academy encourages members, especially those interested in public health to apply. Letters of intent are being accepted from June 1 to 28 and applications from June 14 to August 15.
