Bipartisan Report: Prevention Is Integral to Delivery Reform, Cost Containment

As part of the Health Care Cost Containment Initiative, the Bipartisan Policy Center has released a report titled "A Bipartisan Rx for Patient-Centered Care and System-wide Cost Containment," identifying ways to improve health care while minimizing cost.

The main recommendations in the report are to improve and enhance Medicare to incent quality and care coordination; reform tax policy and clarify consolidation rules to encourage greater efficiency and competition; prioritize quality, prevention and wellness; and incent and empower states to improve care and constrain costs through delivery, payment, workforce and liability reform.

The report includes prevention recommendations, demonstrating its need to be integrated into delivery reform and cost containment. Academy staff has reviewed the article and will continue to tout the cost saving qualities of prevention services like nutrition care as health care reform is rolled out.
