RDs and GMA Provide Consumers with "Facts Up Front"

The Grocery Manufacturers Association has launched an interactive, consumer-friendly web-based tool that complements the "Facts Up Front" nutrition labeling project initiated by GMA and the Food Marketing Institute in 2011. Shopping and meal planning tips provided by registered dietitian nutritionists are among the many features of the site, which gives consumers the knowledge and tools to build a healthy diet.

Facts Up Front is a nutrient-based labeling system that displays important nutrition information from the Nutrition Facts Panel in a simple and easy-to-use format on the front of food and beverage packages. The Facts Up Front icon already appears on many products on store shelves.

A new website is designed to help consumers and health professionals optimize their engagement and use of Facts Up Front to support healthful eating. Consumer materials include a nutrition calculator, meal planning and shopping tips, recipes and more. A section for health professionals provides downloadable educational resources, such as a guide for RDs on planning supermarket tours and information on how to educate clients on making informed decisions in grocery aisles.
