G-8 International Conference on Open Data for Agriculture

The 2013 G-8 International Conference on Open Data for Agriculture will convene April 29 to 30 in Washington, D.C., hosting international experts on global hunger and food insecurity.

The Academy will be represented at this historic event, including Catherine Woteki, PhD, chief scientist and under secretary for research, education and economics at the U.S. Department of Agriculture, who has been designated the alternate head of delegation, after USDA Secretary Tom Vilsack.

During last year’s G-8 Summit, leaders from France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, Canada, Russia and the United States focused on global food security and committed to the New Alliance for Food Security and Nutrition.

One objective identified as a vital component to solve global hunger was open access to publically funded and agriculturally relevant data, which will be the main topic for this year's summit.
