Activities, Recognition, Recruitment: April Is National Preceptor Month

National Preceptor Month is a chance to recognize and thank practitioners who take the time and make the effort to create the next generation of dietetics professionals by teaching students in their workplace.

Help recognize the importance of preceptors and take part in the festivities of National Preceptor Month: Show your appreciation for preceptors throughout the entire month.

  • Send a note. A few words of thanks go a long way.
  • Thank your preceptor’s boss for allowing her or him to be a preceptor.
  • Hang a sign on your preceptor’s office door, so everyone in the workplace knows he or she is helping to create tomorrow's leaders.
  • Nominate him or her for an Outstanding Preceptor Award.
  • Encourage preceptors to continue their great work and help create future dietetics professionals.

The preceptor recruitment drive is now in full swing. Our goal this year is to recruit 2,500 preceptors across the U.S. in the hope that qualified dietetics students will be able to complete their education to become registered dietitian nutritionists and dietetic technicians, registered. To support preceptor recruitment efforts, Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics and the Academy developed a "Find-a-Preceptor" database that is available for practitioners to register to become potential preceptors. Program directors and student members of the Academy can use the database to search and contact preceptors in geographical or specialty practice areas.
