Help Finalize Proposed Rule on Therapeutic Diet Orders

The Academy is working with dietetic practice group and affiliate leaders to submit a comprehensive set of comments in support of the proposed rule on therapeutic diet orders. To do so, we need members' help.

There are two ways for members to get involved:

  • Gather support for the proposed rule by getting non-RD practitioners (physicians, advanced practice nurses, physician assistants), hospital executives and health systems administrators sign on to a letter of support.
  • Submit specific instances of: (a) negative outcomes on patients' health (choking on food, allergic reaction, inappropriate surgery preparation, malnutrition); or (b) costs to providers and hospitals (delay, wrong orders, other causes) resulting from the existing rule that prohibits RDs from ordering patient diets.

Read more about the Academy’s plan and how you can get involved.
