Member Discusses Childhood Hunger and Food Insecurity during Holidays

Academy member Linda Godfrey, MS, RD, SNS, LD, recently was interviewed by National Public Radio about the difficulties families face to feed their children over the holidays and the importance of school nutrition programs.

In the interview, Godfrey also talked about summer school feeding programs she had run, where children would arrive as early as 6 a.m. “And as soon as the doors would open at 11 o’clock, they would already be lined up, and they were extremely hungry. Especially on Monday.”

Childhood hunger and food insecurity are legislative priority areas for the Academy and will be center stage at this year’s Public Policy Workshop. Attend PPW and learn about national and local policies affecting these issues and more.
