Maryland Advocacy Leads to Inclusion of MNT in Essential Health Benefits Package

Thanks to the dedicated members of the Maryland Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, medical nutrition therapy and nutrition counseling will be included in Maryland’s state’s benchmark plan and essential health benefits. The inclusion of these important services is a testament to the strategic grassroots efforts that Maryland members initiated.

MAND worked to establish and maintain personal connections with both members and staff of the Essential Health Benefits Advisory Committee of Maryland; held regular meetings with its hired lobbyist; and provided in-person testimonies at public hearings.

Every state has the opportunity to affect change during the rollout of the new health-care system. To get involved, contact your Public Policy Coordinator.
