RDs in Schools Project in Iowa Will Continue

The Iowa Department of Education has announced funding to continue and expand the reach of the "Meet the Challenge!" school nutrition project that includes the expertise of registered dietitians.

In 2011, the Academy Foundation received a grant of $84,000 from the Iowa Department of Education through a USDA Team Nutrition grant to provide technical assistance to up to 40 schools in the state in modifying school menus and wellness policies in order to apply for USDA Healthier US Schools Challenge awards. An additional $56,000 in funding was recently announced to continue this successful collaboration and to reach an additional 20 schools. RDs will be recruited from the areas that the schools are located. Experienced RDs from the Academy Foundation will provide training, ongoing support for the RDs and project management.
