Implementation of ICD-10 Diagnosis Code Set Delayed a Year

The Department of Health and Human Services has issued its final rule officially pushing the compliance date of the International Classification of Diseases, 10th Edition, known as ICD-10, back one year to October 1, 2014.

The ICD-10 code sets are used by health-care providers to classify diseases and health problems when billing third-party payers for their services, as well as for quality improvement purposes. Despite this announced delay, members are encouraged to continue their efforts within their facilities or individual practices to make the transition to ICD-10.
