Hawaii Joins 46 States with Dietetics Licensure

In 2000, the Hawaii dietetics licensure statute was passed and rules were signed by the governor in 2008. Since that time the Hawaii Dietetic Association has been working with key state agency leaders to finalize implementation. On August 16, the Hawaii State Department of Health's Office of Health Care Assurance announced final implementation.

Sally Belles, RD, CDE, president-elect of the Hawaii Dietetic Association, has led the way for implementation since 2006. Born and raised on Oahu, Belles is an outpatient RD, specializing in disease management for diabetic and oncology patients. "This is the culmination of years of work for many RDs in Hawaii. As an RD, this is a proud moment for the Hawaii Dietetic Association," she said. "As the President-elect, I am grateful to have been a part of the team that made this possible. I am thankful to the Academy for their support of our affiliate in achieving this important goal. We will continue to stay engaged and dedicated to this purpose of maintaining our licensure status."

The Academy congratulates the Hawaii Dietetic Association for this achievement and many years of dedication to this important goal of protecting consumers.
