House Subcommittee Passes Spending Bill

The House of Representatives' Labor and Health and Human Services Subcommittee has marked up its bill to fund the Departments of Education, Labor and Health and Human Services for FY 2013.

This important bill funds a number of government agencies administering nutrition and health programs. The House LHHS Appropriations Subcommittee has called for an 11 percent reduction in the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's overall budget. These cuts will significantly affect the Diabetes Program, and eliminates all funding for the Prevention and Public Health Fund established by the Affordable Care Act.

Nutrition programs within the Administration on Aging would see no increases from last year's funding levels and the National Institutes of Health would be funded at its current level of $30.6 billion.
