RDs Participate in Let's Move Event

On July 18, Philadelphia hosted an event announcing new opportunities to bring Let's Move! to cities, towns and counties across the country. Members of the Pennsylvania Dietetic Association represented the Academy at the event, which featured First Lady Michelle Obama.

Mrs. Obama was joined by mayors from cities including Philadelphia, Newark, N.J.; Oklahoma City, Okla.; Nashville, Tenn.; Bluffton, Ind.; Jackson, Miss.; and Sacramento; Calif.

Abigail Coleman, MS, RD, said to Mrs. Obama: "Please keep registered dietitians at the table as you move forward with all of these initiatives." Mrs. Obama thanked Ms. Coleman for the important work RDs do, noting they are an integral part of the fight against childhood obesity.

A new grant for cities, funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, was announced at the event. The Academy has volunteer Let's Move! Coordinators in all 50 states, working to increase the visibility of registered dietitians and dietetic technicians, registered.
