TPN/Drug Shortage Bill Goes to President's Desk

A large step was taken last week for registered dietitians and other health-care providers in the struggle with drug shortages while providing care.

Last month, the House and Senate passed versions of their drug shortage bills, and both pieces of legislation went to conference where differences were reconciled. Last week, both the House and the Senate voted to pass the reconciled bill, which now heads to President Obama for signature.

The bill includes creation of a National Drug Shortage List, reporting mandates for drug manufacturers when drugs are in shortage and outlines new authority for the Food and Drug Administration to make improvements when drug shortages are identified.
