HHS Announces New Prevention Grants

The Department of Health and Human Services will make $70 million in small-community grants available as part of the Community Transformation Grant Program included in the prevention and wellness initiative authorized by the Affordable Care Act.

Grants will be awarded to governmental agencies and non-governmental organizations across a variety of sectors, including public health.

The CTG Small Communities program targets populations up to 500,000 in neighborhoods, school districts, towns, cities and counties in an effort to increase opportunities for people to improve health.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention expects to make 25 to 50 competitive grant awards under the Small Communities Program, with successful applications announced in September. These grants will be a great opportunity for health-care providers such as registered dietitians to apply their expertise to improving health through preventative measures.
