Senate Rejects Student Loan Bill, Prevention Fund Safe for Now

The Prevention and Public Health Fund is under attack again, this time in the Senate. Academy members have been contacting their Senators, asking them to protect the Prevention Fund.

The Senate is debating a bill aimed at preventing interest rates on college loans from increasing. An amendment has been introduced that would use the Prevention Fund to pay for the student loan bill.

Thirty-four Senators have signed onto a letter to Majority Leader Harry Reid (Nev.) and Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (Ky.), opposing any additional cuts. A similar bill passed by the House last week but has been met with a veto threat by President Obama.
