PPW Brings State Initiatives to the Forefront

When members came to Washington, D.C., in April for the 2012 Public Policy Workshop, they attended sessions that included current information on state initiatives as well as federal policies.

State sessions focused on two priorities: 1) Reporting harm or violations of state dietetics licensure statutes and the process for reporting harm; and 2) Health insurance exchanges and how to get involved in your state.

Engagement with the regulatory committees developing the exchanges is essential. Collecting reports of harm and statute violations has a significant impact on making progress with licensure initiatives. Additional state successes were reported with regard to Let's Move.

Representing continued progress on Let's Move in many states, the New York State Dietetic Association's leadership provided a presentation on New York initiatives, and progress on multiple local meetings and events was shared with PPW attendees.
