New IOM Reports on Healthy Aging and Ensuring Safe Food and Medical Products Abroad

The Institute of Medicine has issued two new reports: "Nutrition and Healthy Aging in the Community" and "Ensuring Safe Foods and Medical Products through Stronger Regulatory Systems Abroad."

"Nutrition and Healthy Aging in the Community" examines nutrition screening, food insecurity, sarcopenic obesity, dietary patterns for older adults and economic issues. It also explores transitional care as individuals move from acute, subacute or chronic care settings to the community. Examples of successful intervention models in the community setting are included, and research gaps are identified in knowledge about nutrition interventions and services for older adults in the community.

"Ensuring Safe Foods and Medical Products through Stronger Regulatory Systems Abroad" identifies core elements of foods, medicines, medical products, biologics and regulatory systems in developing countries; and designs a strategy to leverage the expertise of the Food and Drug Administration and other stakeholders.
