New Bill Proposes Private Foundation to Fund Food Nutrition and Agriculture Research

The Academy, in collaboration with other partners, was pleased that a major initiative to help fund important research has been introduced in Congress. Leaders of the Senate Agriculture Committee introduced a bill to expand funding for food and agricultural research through the creation of a private research foundation. This new bill will offer significant opportunities for Academy members to have a way to fund their important research.

The bill (S.2274) was introduced by Senate Agriculture Committee Ranking Member Pat Roberts (Kan.), with Chairwoman Debbie Stabenow (Mich.) and Sen. Kent Conrad (N.D.), who also serves on the Agriculture Committee.

This legislation would establish a Foundation for Food and Agriculture Research, which would solicit private donations to fund food and agricultural research activities similar to what the National Institutes of Health and the Center for Disease Control and Prevention have established.
