Two Capitol Hill Briefings include Nutrition

The Academy participated into two briefings this week. The first, hosted by Senators Susan Collins (Maine) and Jeanne Shaheen (N.H.), titled Changing the Course of Diabetes to educate hill staff on ways to prevent or delay this chronic disease.

The second hosted by Senator Bernard Sanders (Vt.) with attendance of Senator(s) Whitehouse (R.I.), Kohl (Wis.), Merkley (Ore.), Blumenthal (Conn.), Manchin (W.Va.), Casey (Pa.), and Franken (Minn.) to bring awareness of the Older Americans Act. This hearing was in conjunction with the 2012 Aging in America Conference sponsored by the American Society on Aging. The opening session focused on hunger and the older adult where the Academy was a panelist.
