International Meeting Opportunities

Embracing a new culture is never better than when it's experienced firsthand. Several international meeting opportunities in 2012 can put members in the midst of a new culture while obtaining continuing education at the same time.

  • The American Overseas Dietetic Association will join with more than 1500 colleagues at the 10th Israeli Nutrition Week, June 12-14 in Tel Aviv, Israel. The conference theme, "The Mediterranean Diet through the Life Cycle," will bring together experts from the international food and nutrition community to discuss the influence of this diet and its impact on health and disease. Numerous other food and nutrition topics will be explored, some of them through specialized workshops. Program and registration information.
  • Explore how dietitians practice around the world and work with cultural diversity in their practice settings: Attend the 16th International Congress of Dietetics in Sydney, Australia, September 5-8. This conference is organized by the Dietitians Association of Australia in collaboration with the International Confederation of Dietetic Associations. The Academy is a member of the Confederation with 39 other countries. Don't miss this opportunity that only happens every four years. Get to know your international colleagues and the importance of nutrition in their countries and the cultures they represent. Program and registration information.
  • Another opportunity to explore cultures is at the Academy's Food and Nutrition Conference and Expo in Philadelphia October 6-8. The FNCE Culture Symposium will explore African food and nutrition issues during the Wimpfheimer-Guggenheim Lecture; the use of storytelling as a tool to work with different cultures; and considerations when working with special need clients, such as athletes, wounded military veterans and those with visual and hearing limitations. More information.
