First Lady Acknowledges Registered Dietitians at Florida Let's Move! Event

At a celebration of the second anniversary of Let's Move! on Saturday, February 11, First Lady Michelle Obama was joined by Florida Dietetic Association members and the public at an event at Northland, A Church Distributed, in Longwood, Fla. In her remarks, Mrs. Obama acknowledged the contributions of registered dietitians as she encouraged faith-based organizations to support healthy lifestyles: "There are so many natural leaders in our congregations who are just waiting to be tapped ... Maybe there's a nurse or a dietitian, a community health worker, who's eager to share their expertise."

Mrs. Obama noticed that the RDs at the event were wearing matching t-shirts with the National Nutrition Month “Get Your Plate in Shape” theme and logo, and gave the group a thumbs-up. Photos of members who attended have been posted to the Academy's member Facebook page.

Academy member Lora Gilbert, MS, RD, LD, briefly met with Mrs. Obama after the celebration, and thanked the First Lady for her strong commitment to preventing childhood obesity.
