Senator Sanders Introduces Older Americans Act

On January 26, Sen. Bernie Sanders (Vt.) introduced language on the Older Americans Act Reauthorization (S. 2037). This legislation was originally enacted in 1965 to provide comprehensive assistance to seniors enabling them to remain independent in their homes and communities. The Academy supports the importance of Sen. Sanders' comments and will work hard over the coming months to support passage of the Older Americans Act Reauthorization.

Along with provisions such as employment guidance and assisted living reform, the reauthorization focuses on home delivered meals and congregate dining. As Senator Sanders said on the Senate floor: "We must give seniors the support they need to stay healthy in their homes and communities."
