Super Committee Fails to Meet Objective by Deadline

The Super Committee, the bipartisan Congressional committee charged with reaching a budget deal to reduce the deficit, was unable to come to any agreement by its November 22 deadline, putting into action automatic across-the-board spending reductions known as sequestration. Details are still unfolding, but ADA will continue to work with key partners and members of Congress to understand how these actions will affect members and the programs and services they deliver.

The leaders of Agriculture Committees of both the House and the Senate had submitted recommendations to the Super Committee in hopes that it would be the foundation of the next Farm Bill. Although not perfect, many of ADA's issues were included in the recommendations. Now that the Super Committee's deadline has passed, it is expected that the usual process for the passage of the Farm Bill will occur. ADA will continue its efforts to ensure the current recommendations are included in the proposed Bill.
