ADA Speaks Up on Essential Health Benefits Package

To solicit broad public input on the design of the Essential Health Benefits package required by the Affordable Care Act, the Department of Health and Human Services recently held listening sessions in several regions across the country. ADA members attended and provided comments on behalf of the Association, stating the case for including MNT services provided by registered dietitians.

Members who spoke at the sessions included Sarah Conca, MPA, RD, LDN; Mary Mullen, MS, RD, LDN; Araceli Vazquez, MS, RD, LD; and Krista Yoder-Latortue, MPD, RD, LDN, CSP.

Senior HHS officials were in attendance to listen to stakeholder feedback. Benefits included in this package will affect millions of Americans who will access health insurance through the new Affordable Insurance Exchanges. The listening sessions continue next week and ADA members will attend to speak up for nutrition services as an essential benefit.
