NCDA Sponsors Inaugural "Advocacy Day"

North Carolina Dietetic Association leaders and members met recently in Chapel Hill to hear about public policy successes and to receive tips for effective advocacy with elected officials. NCDA’s public policy panel organized the event, which was attended by more than 55 members.

NCDA President Amanda Holliday, MS, RD, LDN, emphasized the need for members' involvement in the legislative process. Public Policy Coordinator Lorraine Matthews, MS, RD, LDN, discussed the importance of participating in meetings with congressional district staff members. State Policy Representative Monica Gulisano, RD, highlighted state issues and the upcoming State Legislative Day. State Regulatory Specialist Barbara Ann Hughes, PhD, MPH, RD, LDN, FADA, encouraged RDs to be a part of the regulatory process and showcased the North Carolina Blue Cross/Blue Shield MNT study results. Each speaker provided "how to" tips and real-life examples and scenarios of meetings with elected officials.
