National Diabetes Education Program Involves Members in Committees, Task Forces

Three ADA members have been appointed to committees and task forces of the National Diabetes Education Program. NDEP is a partnership of the National Institutes of Health, the Center for Disease Control and Prevention and more than 200 public and private organizations.

Ann Constance, MA, RD, CDE, serves as ADA's NDEP alliance representative. She recently attended a partner meeting and reports three goals she plans to work on in this position: to identify NDEP tools that will assist members in their work; to reinforce the importance of medical nutrition therapy throughout NDEP resources; and to promote the value of the dietetics profession to all NDEP partners.

NDEP is undergoing organizational changes and through this process has formed task forces that focus on specific aspects of its work. ADA Spokesperson Constance Brown-Riggs, MSEd, RD, CDE, CDN, will work on the promotion task force, which is charged with helping to effectively market and promote NDEP's portfolio of diabetes prevention and control offerings via traditional and new media/communications technology.

Margaret (Maggie) Powers, PhD, RD, CDE, will work on the task force to update NDEP's website that provides guidance and resources to improve delivery of diabetes care and education.

NDEP offers many resources for consumers and health-care providers for prevention and treatment of diabetes, and its website contains valuable information for anyone working with patients and clients with this chronic disease.
