House Joint Subcommittees Hearing: Food Marketing to Children

ADA staff attended the recent House Committee on Energy and Commerce's hearing on guidelines for food marketing to children developed by the Interagency Working Group as mandated by the 2009 appropriations bill.

Panelists included members representing the IWG (Federal Trade Commission, U.S. Department of Agriculture, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) along with representatives from nonprofits, trade associations, academia and the private sector, including ADA member Margo G. Wootan, DSc.

Although the recommendations are voluntary, industry feels IWG has overstepped the intent.

More information on the hearing including opening statements by members and panelists along with background information.
