San Diego and Park

Successful and Eventful FNCE

ADA's 2011 Food & Nutrition Conference & Expo drew approximately 9,000 attendees to the San Diego Convention Center. At the FNCE Opening Session, President Sylvia A. Escott-Stump, MA, RD, LDN, announced ADA would change its name in January 2012 to the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. And she read a letter ADA received from First Lady Michelle Obama congratulating ADA on its meeting and thanking ADA and its members "for the important work you do each day to keep our families healthy."

In her Opening Session remarks, President Escott-Stump said: "The name American Dietetic Association served us well for nearly 100 years. Now, let us draw upon the strengths and values that have defined us since 1917, be aware of the huge opportunities that await us, and go forward to demonstrate what it means to be a member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. We owe it to ourselves and to the people we serve."

She also announced that ADA's magazine ADA Times would change its name to Food & Nutrition, effective in early 2012.

President Escott-Stump's entire Opening Session remarks can be read on ADA's website, along with Mrs. Obama's letter to ADA.
