ADA Prepares Comments on CMS Proposed Coverage Decisions

ADA is drafting responses to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Studies regarding the recently issued Proposed Coverage Decision Memoranda for Intensive Behavioral Counseling for Cardiovascular Disease and for Obesity. ADA's responses highlight the extensive evidence supporting the effectiveness and cost savings of RD-provided interventions and reiterate the United States Preventive Services Task Force's recommendations for RD-provided counseling to promote a healthy diet in adults.

As part of the regulatory process, proposed coverage decisions are posted by CMS for public comment. ADA submits extensive evidence-based comments that support the inclusion of nutrition services. The process includes collaboration with dietetic practice groups (DPGs), expert members, the Coding and Coverage Committee, Quality Management Committee and the Legislative and Public Policy Committee.
