ADA Participates in Unveiling of MyPlate

Members of ADA were present in Washington, D.C., on June 2 as First Lady Michelle Obama, Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack and Surgeon General Regina M. Benjamin unveiled the government's new MyPlate dietary guidance symbol.

ADA Board member Kathleen M. Zelman, MPH, RD, LD, director of nutrition for WebMD; Jeanne Blankenship, MS, RD, ADA's vice president for policy initiatives and advocacy; and ADA Spokesperson Joy Dubost, PhD, RD, were at the MyPlate announcement and press conference.

Ms. Zelman spoke during the announcement, representing WebMD. She was also invited to a reception prior to the announcement, at which she met Mrs. Obama and other officials. "I took the opportunity to promote and encourage her to reach out and continue working with ADA," she said.
