WIC and SNAP Funding: Senate Update

ADA staff continues to meet with senators, including members of the Senate Appropriations committee, to urge Congress against drastically and unfairly cutting WIC and SNAP funding.

ADA has argued that although budgetary cuts need to be made to get America's fiscal house in order, they must not be made at the expense of the needy and undernourished. ADA also is making the point that as Congress moves forward with the appropriations process, it must protect those programs that are working efficiently and effectively.

ADA representatives have met recently with staff members in the offices of Sens. Mark Kirk (R.-Ill.) Pat Toomey (R.-Pa.), Ron Johnson (R.-Wis.), Harry Reid (D.-Nev.) and Thad Cochran (R.-Miss.). The Senate plans to begin its mark-up schedule in mid-July and ADA will continue to work independently and with its coalition members to advocate for necessary funding levels for essential programs.
