CMS Workgroup Addresses Key Issues

ADA's new Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services Workgroup met in Chicago on May 13 to begin its work developing and executing strategies that have a positive impact on CMS. The workgroup was established by ADA's Legislative and Public Policy Committee. CMS initiatives affect ADA's entire membership, directly or indirectly, so ADA is fully committed to ensuring the Association's important voice is heard.

One essential element of the workgroup's purpose is to optimize the nation's health and produce cost-saving efficiencies by advocating for high-quality nutrition services and interventions. Attendees at the meeting focused on therapeutic diet orders; expanding MNT and other reimbursement; and enhancing ADA's relationship with CMS.

By anticipating CMS regulations and prospectively gathering scientific data and necessary expertise of ADA members, the workgroup will actively drive regulatory change.
