Healthy School

Member Volunteers Help Families at School's Spring Celebration

RD Coaches at Banneker Elementary School in Kansas City, Kan., worked recently with the school's principal and a local food bank to incorporate nutrition education and distribution of healthy foods to families attending a school Spring Celebration.

The Feeding America food bank Harvesters donated shelf-stable food and fresh produce that were picked up by RD Coaches, delivered to the school and sorted into individual family boxes. Many students and families attended the Spring Celebration where RD Coaches provided healthy tastings, recipes and educational materials to attendees. Families left with pasta, cereal, oatmeal, corn, potatoes, grapefruit and yogurt.

This event shows how members can make a difference by becoming a volunteer in ADA. Many volunteer opportunities are available to members.
