National C-FAR Annual Meeting

Nutrition interventions are effective and save money, making it necessary to maintain funding levels of food and nutrition research in a climate of budget cuts: That was one of the key messages to emerge from last week's meeting of the National Coalition for Food and Nutrition Research, of which ADA is a member.

One of the speakers at the National C-FAR meeting was ADA member Catherine Woteki, PhD, RD, undersecretary for research, education and economics at the U.S. Department of Agriculture. She presented the agency's comprehensive REE strategy, draft action plan and public input process. Ms. Woteki, one of the highest-ranking registered dietitians in the federal government, brings ADA's voice to the government's understanding and policies regarding the role of food and nutrition in agriculture issues.
